Daniella’s Speech

Good morning parents, students, Mrs. Dietz and Mrs. German.  Thank you families for joining our 5th grade promotion i’m sure you’re going to have a lovely time.

I’m  going to be talking about how Daly changed my life and how I changed as a person.

My personality has changed so much since kindergarten I used to be a shy little girl who never talked and who never stood out in class and would never say what’s on my mind or what I was thinking. Nowadays,  you would  never have thought I used to be shy.  Now I say what’s on my mind, i’m the crazy, weird, I don’t care what people think of me type of girl and most of my change was because of my friends.  And i’m only talking about my 5th grade friends that I met this year they’re like my best friends and my old friends that I’ve

known since  kindergarten we hardly ever talk.

I used to think I would be shy forever , but then came 5th grade in Mr. Fitzpatrick’s class where I met the best people anybody could ever ask for and I would like to thank them Alexa, Leandra, Lezley, Nyima thank you guys for being the best to me always making me smile by hugging me every single day even though i’m not a hugging type of  person.  And for making me laugh every single day as well.  I will also like to thank my mom and dad and my grandma for making me the person I am today and working with me even when I was not the nicest or easiest person to work with.

For now, my goal is to always find new stuff about myself even when I think i’m done changing there’s always gonna be more, like is my personality gonna change? Am I still gonna be weird?

My dream job is to be a veterinarian because, come on, who doesn’t like animals they’re adorable.

We are all about to start a new chapter in our lives as we move on from elementary school that we’ve  been in since kindergarten to middle school that you’re going to be in for 3 years.

Hope you  have a great summer and a wonderful time in middle school.

And remember You will always find new stuff about yourself even when you’re 90 years old.

Veterinarians

All over the world there will be pets and animals  that will need help with their health and help animals that will get sick and need to get check ups.  That’s why there are veterinarians to make sure all pets and animals are healthy and help them with any problems they might have.  The type of veterinarian I want to be is a small pet veterinarian. That is why I think they still be here in 20 years.

The generic  job duties they have to do are to care for the health of animals, improve their health if its bad or if there sick. And to make sure that they do not have any broken bones and to give them surgery.  The detailed duties that they do are: spaying and neutering, setting broken bones, treating wounds, and doing check-ups. The annual salary for a veterinarian is $93,000 a year.

To be a veterinarian you need to first do good in grad school, then you need to do good on your LSAT so that you can get into a good college. After that, when you study hard in veterinarian college, you can pass with flying colors and get a  Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree and a state license you also need 4 years of college to be a veterinarian.

The tools that a veterinarian uses are similar to what a medical doctor uses. They use a  stethoscopes, surgical instruments, and diagnostic equipment (x-ray machines, ultrasound equipment, etc.).  Just like all the other medical doctors. What is different from a medical doctor is that a veterinarian’s prescription and nonprescription medicine inside the office because there aren’t pharmacies for pets.

I think small pet veterinarians  will be here in 20 years because animals will need help with their body and make sure they are being treated good and give them check ups and if their sick who’s gonna give them the medicine only veterinarians can give them because there are no pet pharmacies.

Mr.Linden Library By:Daniella

Exactly 15 years ago, this day, a girl named Emily came into Mr. Linden’s  library.  She seemed nice,  with blond hair, blue eyes and freckles with  cheeks you just wanted to squeeze.  I warned her that some books were dangerous and some  were not, but she didn’t listen to me her attitude didn’t  match her face at all…

When I tried to tell her, she replied in such a rude manner.

“I don’t have to listen to you old man! I know how to choose my own books”

“Ok….”  Mr.Linden said sternly”

“Don’t come to me when something goes wrong…” He said  while walking away.”

Emily was 12 years old, but she looked like she was 15. Back then, before it all happened, she used to be all joyous and cheerful. Then her mother died…. and it was just her and her father. Who rarely comes home anymore other than to sleep or take a shower. You could say not having any love in life can change you forever…. just a little more love can change you from being a horrible, rotten to a sweet and caring person. When Emily got her grades down her father didn’t care, he didn’t even remember her birthday it just was a normal day to her father. She felt Emily had no friends so she ate next to the the trash can when it was lunch time she never listened to the teacher.  Emily’s dad never came to talk to the teacher because well, he  didn’t care about Emily at all he never asked her how was her day or anything they didn’t even talk to each other. She felt so left out…

Emily looked through the back of the library to find a book that she thought would at least even look interesting.  She had read most of the books already and they just weren’t satisfying that hole in her heart, she just wanted to have someone to care about her, But she didn’t let anyone know that. She had a heart made of stone but deep down there was a piece of her heart that was still there, ready for someone to come and save it, waiting for someone to help her.

She was roaming through the aisles waiting for that interesting book to magically come to her, just like she was waiting for her mom to magically come back to life…. She could only wish.  As she had walked down the same aisle over and over again for what it had seemed to be the 1,000th time, she saw a book that looked out of the ordinary. She was confused, she went down this aisle many times and looked at every single book but she hadn’t seen this one. She grabbed it and read the first page, it seemed to be a diary of a person named Thomas Finley. She searched up his name and nothing came up it was like he never existed.  Emily took the diary but when she checked it out Mr. Linden came out of nowhere and said

“I’m warning you Emily do not take the journal, it’s dangerous.”

Emily thought about it for a minute, then she countered what he said with

“A journal can’t be haunted you old man! Maybe you should stop reading too much scary stories before you go to sleep.” And with that she strutted off.

She took the journal home and started to read it when she noticed the weird things in the jou started to happen to her she read the journal  until she fell asleep  but right before she fell asleep she read this….

“It was the day before the last day of school. I tried to make the vines not really noticeable by wearing long sleeve shirts, it is very hot but I would rather deal with that than deal with people knowing about the vines that are growing on me. I don’t know what I do when I pass out but, i’m sure it’s not good. I’ve been waking up with scars and scratches on my body…. Someone help me please! What’s happening to me?! The vines are growing

It ended there, the next page had been ripped off and she couldn’t read the rest.

“This isn’t true,” She scoffed. “This is just some scary ghost story that’s made up.”

With that happening she decided to call it a night and go to sleep. She had enough of reading this story and she didn’t want to read it anymore. She left the journal beside her and went to sleep . After about 30 minutes the journal opened on a page with mysterious drawings on it, it glowed a dark purple and then it stopped. Then, a vine started growing from the bottom of her nice new pair of shoes to her perfect  blonde hair.

She woke up the next day with bits of vine poking out from underneath her skin when she saw it she screeched and went  straight to Mr.Linden’s library.

“ Help me and undo whatever you did to me now!” She yelled.

“No.” He said firmly.

“What?”

“I said no.”

“Mr.Linden I will not take no for an answer.”

“I told you, don’t come to me when something goes wrong.”

And with that he walked away.

Emily ran home and cried in bed, he knew that what was happening to her wasn’t normal. You aren’t supposed to grow vines in your skin. Eventually she cried herself to sleep, not knowing what was about to happen.

She slept for 3 hours and woke up after she felt a bit itchy. She went to the bathroom and try to see what was wrong and took a look in the mirror. She screamed in terror as all of her legs were covered in vines, and once again she ran to Mr. Linden’s library. People ran away when they saw her, babies cried, and dogs barked like crazy. She cried the whole entire time getting there. When she got to his library she begged him to hear her out.

“Please Mr.Linden, help me.” She cried. “I’ve learned my lesson so just please…. Help me.”

He looked at her with a firm face and replied:

“I’m sorry but no, I will not help you. You haven’t truly learned your lesson. Now please leave my library.”

“FINE!” She yelled. “I don’t need your help anyways!”

She turned around and stomped away. Mr.Linden turned around and thought to himself:

“ he had warned her about the book.  Now it was too late

And he walked away.

She ran home as fast as she could, she knew what she had to do. She set up a camera and went to sleep. She wanted see where the vines were coming from and how it happened.  She went to sleep for the day hoping she could figure out what’s happening tomorrow.

She woke up with her whole entire left arm covered in vines and her right arm halfway covered. She got out of bed and rushed to the camera, and stopped the recording. She played the tape over and watched what happened during the night. She saw that the vines were coming from the journal and the page that it turned to. She quickly grabbed the journal and flipped the pages until she found the page with the drawing on it. There was writing on it but she couldn’t tell what it meant, and she didn’t want to know.

She grabbed the journal and ran to Mr.Linden’s library for what she hoped to be the last time, bust through the door and confronted him.

“Why in the world would you have a book in your library that does this to people?!” She yelled. “This book actually hurts people! But you know what? I’m going to get rid of it, and you can thank me when i’m done.”

She ran, ran as fast as she could, She knew she didn’t have a lot of time left because the vines were already up to her neck, and she could feel the air getting thinner. She went to her house and rushed to the fireplace. Where she then threw this terrible book into. As the book burned she could feel the air getting thicker, and she felt proud. She faced what was happening to her instead of running away. She knew that these past few days were the most important days of her life.

The End

Clear Spring Park opinion

In my opinion Clear Spring Park is a positive attributes of Germantown  because i always see kids having so much fun with their friends and see  their parents smiling.  Also whenever I go I Always have so much fun with my friends playing games.

Clear Spring Park has a little roof for if it rains of any type of weather, for the kids safety there is no smoking allowed.  At Clear Spring Park they have trash cans and recycling cans so people won’t litter and when you have a party they have picnic tables.  And for adults they have benches so the parents can set and watch their kid.

In conclusion, whenever I think of Clear Spring Park i have an existing feeling and when my parents ask me if i want to go i always say yes.

School uniform opinion

In my opinion school uniforms should not be allowed in schools because they are not able to show their personalities, school uniforms cost a lot of money,  school uniforms don’t work.

If there are no uniforms all the parents will save thousands of dollars if school uniforms were not allowed.  A girls School uniform will cost $276 for a week of school plus normal clothes when your kid comes home so your talking about $300, and a boys  school uniform will cost $257 for a week of  school and clothes  for home so about $300. that is a lot of money right there.  Imagine if every kid had a school uniform parents around the world will be losing money and if you have a lot of kids just for your family  you’ll be wasting $1,000.

Kids should be able to show their personalities and because of school uniforms they can’t do that.  With school uniforms you have to wear the same exact thing as their classmates and the only time they can show their personalities  is when they are  home.

School uniforms don’t work because research have  found that student uniforms had no positive correlation with absenteeism and drug use.  Also a negative effect on student achievement by tenth graders forced to wear uniforms.

In conclusion school uniforms should be not allowed in schools as you saw they cost a lot of money and they are not able to show their personalities and how they don’t work.

The Civil Rights Movement

The Civil Rights movement has affected every single one of us at Daly  Elementary. The civil rights movement started in the 1950’s,  it gave  us multicultural classrooms.  African Americans wanted to be treated as equally as  whites.

Who is Rosa Parks?

Rosa Parks was an african american.  Rosa Parks was born on February 4,1913.  Rosa Parks went to school at Highlander Folk School and
This protest ended with the U.S. Supreme Court ruling that segregation on public buses is unconstitutional.  Also this is when Rosa Parks died October 24, 2005.  Rosa was a very imprudent women Rosa parks even got arrested because she would not give up her set for a white man.  Rosa Parks got arrested because the african americans had to set in the back and the white people has to set in the front.  Also after Rosa Parks got out of jail she started the boycott that’s when the black people stopped using the bus for a year.  Also some white people that liked Rosa Parks supported her and did not ride the the buses ether and 50,000 people did not ride the busses because of the boycott.

Who is Martin Luther King?

Martin Luther King was an African American civil rights leader.  Martin Luther King was born January 15, 1929 in Atlanta Georgia.   Martin Luther King went to 3 different schools after high school here are the the schools he went to Morehouse College, Crozer Theological Seminary, Boston university.  Martin Luther King on was assassinated on April 4, 1968.

Boycott

Rosa Parks after she got out of jail she started the boycott this is when the boycott started December 1, 1955 and it ended December 20, 1956.  Rosa Parks started the boycott because she wouldn’t give her seat on the bus to a white man.  She encouraged African Americans to not ride the bus, they either had to walk,  bike, or carpool.  50,000 people did not ride the bus in Rosa Parks county.  This protest ended with the U.S. Supreme Court ruling that segregation on public buses is unconstitutional.

I have a dream speech

On August 28, 1963, on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C, during the march on Washington for jobs and freedom Martin Luther King gave his famous i have a dream speech.  250,000 people attended this protest, in which they walked a mile long walk from the national mall to the Lincoln Memorial.  After that, they listened to many civil rights leaders speeches but Martin Luther King jr. came last.  The i have a dream part of his speech came at the very end.

Civil rights act

The civil rights act of 1964, was the end of the civil rights movement.  It outlawed any discrimination against race, color, religion, gender, or national origin.

With the determination of Martin Luther King and Rosa Parks and all the other civil rights leaders,  now African Americans are equal as the white people, and any other race. At Daly Elementary  2015,  there are a lot of races in each classrooms.  We are all together and no one is discriminating each other. Without civil rights Movement  each classroom will still be segregated, and races would not be able to mix.
