Geothermal Energy! By: Abigail

GeothermalGEOTHERMAL ENERGY!
Geothermal is a steam from the earth that can provide useful energy. Geothermal means earth’s heat.

Production and Distribution

Geothermal energy is steam that can climb pipes to a turbine that it spins to make energy! Another type of way to make geothermal is to make super heated water and spray it in tanks where it instantaneously turns into steam before it transfers to the turbines.  A different geothermal energy is  pipes are placed underground that passes though very hot pieces of rock. Then cold water runs up the pipes in the ground once it gets out the other end ,it turns into the steam to generate electricity. The middle of the earth is very very hot because it is filled with molten rock. Most of the heat is trapped in the earths crust and it is water or steam in the super heated rocks so it will not be able to cool down. The geothermal energy plants  make this heat that turns into many different forms and it turns turbines which is used to generate electricity. There are many different geothermal energy plants that use the earth’s heat.

Costs

What you need to make the steam to generate the energy for geothermal is:

A production well

2 massive pipes

A injection well

A turbine

A generator

And a power plant

Environmental Impact

Geothermal energy is a non-polluting energy source since it is made by the earth and there is no pollution from the plants. Finding the right place to put the pipes can get very tricky, just because it is in the earth is full of heat it doesn’t mean that that piece of land is the best place to put it is to  find the right amount of energy, but it  is almost impossible to find. If you don’t have the right type of rock it can cost millions of dollars. It can also be very dangerous too, it may cause even more climate change to the earth.

In conclusion, earth can help us in many ways like giving us energy!
