Minimalist Book Covers

After completing our novels my students were challenged to redesign their book covers, but in a minimalist way.  This assignment is based on the DS106 assignment (specific assignment link) from University of Mary Washington.  My students exceeded my expectations with their final products.  My students each have a Chromebook assigned to them.  The students built their final products in Google Draw.  A couple of students used single pieces of clipart on their new covers.  After they designed their covers they had to defend their design decisions on their blogs. Below are some of the covers that have been turned in.

Outstanding artwork! Excellent examples! And so relevant with the blog reflections as a defense. All part of a perfect mix of a talented educator who knows how to create a leaning environment rather than a teaching environment and the results of greatness when students are allowed voice, choice, and freedom to create. Kudos to all!

…and how many will see this art and not realize it is 5th graders?! Gives me goosebumps!

These are way beyond awesome- the kids have really gotten a great sense for the minimalism style and choices for metaphors. I’m not familiar with BFG so its fun to guess from the art.

They have a great future in DS106, thanks for sharing this.
