Smoking Tobacco started in 1650 and people found out that tobacco was unhealthy and it is 2014 so it has been 650 years of people were dieing of tobacco. People can die when they are jog they could die because your heart gave up because they smoked to much tobacco your heart gave up and you are lying there helpless and die in 3 minutes late. These are things you will learn in this information about tobacco safety and the person who invented cigarettes was washington Duke in 1865.
After math
People who have used cigarettes think it is ok but it is not ok because when you smoke tobacco you hurt own lunges and die and before that your skin start to peal off and your teeth start fall out and your skin start to dry up and get so wrinkled that is when your skin starts to fall off here when you smoke your skin will look like bad but before that you look good because you didn’t smoke back then 1 year later and you have to get pulled over and get arrested for fraud because your driver license picture because you look different from your picture.
What is in a cigarette
Places that make cigarettes put a warning on each one and a picture what could happen to your lungs. warning label are important because it could have something really dangers in it and tobacco also contain tar and poison gas carbon monoxide oxide. The ingredients that produces the effect people are looking for an addictive drug and one of the harshest chemicals in tobacco smoke and 43 known ingredients you give cancer and people could not find a cure and die or if they find a cure and when you leave the hospital and you will probably start to smoke tobacco and it will start all over again.Did you 43000 people die of smoking tobacco and 53800 die of second hand smoke?

Disaster

when you smoke you can get pulled over and get arrested for driving and smoking at the same time. When you smoke you could pass it on to your child and it could pass on to your child and it could get past on and on it will go on forever. In your life you will know someone that died by smoking in your family and you will smoke to remember that person but don’t you will die as well.

 How Volvo helps

One of the companies that helped car safety was Volvo. The founders of Volvo were Assar Gabrielsson and Gustaf  Larson they created the company was in April 14, 1927.Volvo helped a lot because they were the first cars to have seat  belt. In 1958 the seat belt was released by Volvo. The creator of the seatbelt was Nils Bohlin.Volvo also created the anti-lock brake which was made in 1966.The anti-lock brake helped a lot because it

was stronger than all the other ones. In my opinion Volvo is the safest car company.

How Ralph Nader Helped

Ralph Nader was A famous person that convinced people that if yo u go to fast you might die. He was born in February 27,1934 The way he convinced them was by making A book called unsafe at any speed. It was published in 1965. With that book it made big changes to the United States. Another fact about Ralph Nader is that he ran for president.

Volvo and Ralph Nader did big changes to the U.S.A and in this essay it told you most of it. This is the end of the essay and be careful in the streets, put the seat belts on, and drive in speed your suppose to.

Scotts Tobacco Safety Movement

The Moment of Tobacco Safety
By: Scott

The Movement of Tobacco safety started in the mid 1960 ’s and continues today. The movement has changed or saved the lives of countless people. The sale of tobacco started in the USA when Indian tribes were here and went global. It still goes on today. It will probably go on for years maybe decades or possibly centuries.
Did you know a cigarette company used no tobacco and instead was made of lettuce? Since it didn’t have tobacco in it, it failed to sell. This info tells you only cigars and cigarettes with tobacco sell and are wanted. The people that smoked before 1964 thought it was a medicine for everything. They thought it was a miracle drug. They did not know that it harmed there body. It was depressing that it killed them and they had know idea what it was.

Mirza Shiraz was born in Shiraz on 1914.He is widely known for his verdict ( a decision of the critics ) against the usage of tobacco in what became known as the Tobacco Protest in the Qajar era. Mirza’s real name is Mirza Mohammed Hassan Husseini Shirazi. His famous name is Mirza Shiraz. He led protests against drug usage. He died the year of 1981.

7.3% of mixed races smoke all over the world. Every day more smoke. So many people die or get sick all because of smoking. 1.875% of smokers die every year. 3.0% of people join smoking and 2.0% quit. In 1965 42% of the world smoked, that went down to 18% in 2012, and now its at 7.3% of the world on 11/25/14. I am proud of the people who quit. 34.7% of the world quit smoking. From this data it says that tobacco safety movements take a huge part, and grown ups quit when they gain responsibility.

Kerala High Court former judge Justice K Narayana Kurup began the Anti-Tobacco Campaign at the Sports Authority of India – Lakshmibai National College for Physical Education (SAI-LNCPE), Kariavattom on Monday. He announced a gathering of staff and students at the SAI-LNCPE and spoke on the need to lower down on the tobacco usage in the country. Kurup spoke about how he had been strict (enforce directly) about banning smoking in public places through a landmark judgment while serving on the Bench in the High Court of Kerala. “The greatest danger to humans today is not natural disasters. It is tobacco products and smoking” he said. He also sought (attempt to find) the cooperation of the younger generation in spreading awareness about the dangers of smoking tobacco, which kills millions every year. In his address, Kishore lauded (praise a person or their achievements highly) Kurup’s sincere efforts in the lead against smoking. Professor Sreenarayana Kurup welcomed the chief guest and the gathering and George Mathews proposed (put forward) the vote of thanks. Learn more at http://www.newindianexpress.com/cities/thiruvananthapuram/Tobacco-Greatest-Danger-to-Humanity/2014/11/18/article2528382.ece. You to should read about K Narayana Kurup.

Bihar government takes command on the ban of tobacco! The Bihar government on Friday 2014 October announced a ban on tobacco and its products to ward (push off) off its ill effects on citizens (people who live in government). The CM ( nickname for group ) also said that tax on tobacco and its products would be enhanced (gained, added more to). The state at present imposes 30 per cent tax on tobacco and its products and sources in Excise department said there was a proposal (added to) to double it up. Bihar becomes the ninth state to impose (make) ban on tobacco sale. In a bid to strictly enforce no smoking in government offices and public places, the CM ordered officials to launch special drive . He said action would be taken against officials if violation of ban was witnessed in offices and public places. Manjhi administered oath (promise) to children at a programme on the occasion in Gandhi maidan that they would not touch tobacco and its products throughout life. He asked students to dissuade (persuade negatively) their family members and friends if they consume (eat or drink) tobacco products. This info can be found at http://indianexpress.com/article/india/india-others/bihar-government-imposes-ban-on-tobacco/. Theres more info to discover!

India steps up tobacco warnings to combat nearly 1 million deaths!!! India has stepped up efforts to curb nearly 1 million tobacco-related deaths a year by issuing new rules to embolden (strengthen) the health warnings on tobacco packets and make the country one of the world’s strictest (enforce directly) in terms of tobacco labelling. But while regulators (a person or thing) try to crack down on branded (types) cigarettes and similar products, there is still a vast unregulated (not controlled or supervised by law) market for tobacco in India. And it’s far from clear that slapping warnings on cigarette packs will have much impact on health.

Cigars and cigarettes will destroy your lungs on the inside. Heres a picture of what it looks like.

The smokers lung is terrible. Healthy lung is somebody who doesn’t smoke. There both nasty but one is healthy. That is what is in your body. There is a difference, good lung and bad lung.  What if you smoked and it showed on the out side. Nobody would want to look at you. I’m not going to show you a picture, though there are pictures. Here is a web site if you want to see http://shiftucc.wordpress.com/2014/03/01/the-smoking-gun/.

Overall you should not smoke. I hope you learn from this info about tobacco and never use it. You can help to stop tobacco, and help people get from harms way. Help the the fight to end tobacco! Encourage people to quit! Never use tobacco products! Teach people, and we can end tobacco use. Overcome tobacco and help others overcome it to. Help end the fight.

Child Safety

Kid Safety Movement

By: Kyla Randolph

Introduction

The Kid safety movement started in the 1970’s. Terrible things can happen when children aren’t safe. Children all over the world can get hurt at anytime. Parents try to babyproof their homes so there babies won’t hurt themselves. Sometimes, children over the age of 12 are responsible for their younger siblings if they have any, for when their parents leave to do something. Families, companies, and the government have worked to make sure kids are staying safe.

Parent gotta do what a Parent gotta do

People keep their children safe to protect them from dangerous things like closing there finger in the door, touch a sharp knife or a needle, and especially when children don’t listen to their parents and do things when their parents told them to not that practice and never knew not to do it. Parents should know how to take of their child.

A Baby is Born
When you take your child from the hospital born or adopted you must take care of it. This is a privilege to have a child. So you must protect them as you would protect your family. Now you have little people running in your house. You never know when they may hurt themselves and will start to cry. You are there guardian.

Car Seats

Child car safety should be thanked by Graco, Gerber, Orbit baby, Diono, and other types of children companies to keep them safe. Parents don’t listen to the law and they just break it. Parents let children sit in the front seat, never have their seat belt on while they are in the car and driving.

In conclusion

I want to stop child harm and I want children to be safe and and to have parents follow the rules so NO child will get harmed. I see children get all the time and I wanted to stop that. I lost family members that I lost, but losing a child is more scarring and disperating. I listen to the knews children get hurt the time. Join with me and help the children safety rank to the number one priority so everyone can start child safety.

Car Safety Movement

The Essay of Safety Movement

By: Cobin

It all started when kids got in car crashes in the 1993 or 2003. Mostly in 2011 kids got injured or killed. People say that in the past nothing was safe at all! But now in the present, everything is safe so nothing would cause an accident. I’ll show you more about Car Safety.

Car Safety, a law so everything you use is safe. Especially cars. Nothing in the past was safe at all due to no care to things that were important. James Dean, do you know him, well he died in a car crash. When James died it was 1995, and he was 24 at that time. Cars weren’t safe and at that year! And cars are safe now in the present.

Seatbelts were not safe in the past. Seatbelts were invented by George Cayley. He was born on December 27, 1773. Make sure you’re tucked in right. And when you’re driving make sure you’re paying attention to what’s happening. Put your car in neutral. But check if it’s not on reverse or then as slight problem is going to happening. There’s this new technology called “ Mobileye”. And what it does is it indicates if you’re going to hit a car or a person. It also detects if there’s a speed limit sign. That device is added to older cars.

Back then there was Seatbelts that reproduced by themselves.  The first seat belt law was a federal law, Title 49 of the United States Code, Motor Vehicle Safety Standard, which took effect on January 1. In 1968. There is an auto brake technology that assists in reducing or avoiding traffic accidents at speeds up to 19 mph made by Volvo cars. The Highway loss Data Institute  released a new study today that examines Volvo’s City Safety system, which the Institute found helps prevent crashes at low speeds.  The HDLI says that Volvo’s City Safety system works at speeds between 2 and 19 mph and “uses an infrared laser sensor built into the windshield” to scan the area in front of the vehicle.

Conclusion

What I developed is that Car Safety Movement is one of the most important law that  you must follow! Volvo’s in the past were way unsafe. That’s why the mechanics built a new and upgraded Volvo. Kids died on a specific date, like on 1993 or 2003. Seatbelts were made/invented by George Cayley. He made the first original Safety belt. But Nils Bohlin has invented a Modern Safety Belt. He saved Millions of lives! By that Modern Safety belt. And Volvo’s speed limits of crashing and their technology. By avoiding things on the road that would cause an accident. James Dean died due to cars in the past, which weren’t safe. So those are reasons to why Car Safety Movement is important.

The Safety Of Tobacco Safety

When Did Smoking Start and What It Does

Smoking or the use of tobacco has started almost 400 years ago and it still goes on today. Smoking can seriously damage your body, you’ll have to attach a machine inside of your body. Everyday people die because of smoking. People think that smoking is cool. Also kids that have a family member who smoke, they are more likely to smoke when they get older and then it will happen again and more people will die. Advertisement companies have banned and took off smoking ads. Ads are the most popular way to get peoples attention and smoke. Smoking can make you grumpy and angry. There have been many changes in the United States towards tobacco, let’s get started at the beginning.

Why Is Tobacco Bad For You

Tobacco is a plant made on farms and sold in stores. Cigarettes, tobacco and cigars are very bad for your heart. Smoking can cause heart, lung, cancer and disease. Tobacco has chemicals that weren’t in tobacco 400 years ago. Tobacco has nicotine that gets people addicted to smoking pipes, cigars, cigarettes, and tobacco. 7.3% people smoke. Firsthand smoking is worse than second hand smoking. It is worse because the smoke that you are smoking goes to your lungs and all of the organs in your body and will cause diseases that can keep you from being healthy or from breathing properly. Tobacco killed 1 billion people in the 21st century. The action on smoking of health (ASH) has been against smoking and has been taking out anything that involves smoking.

The Tobacco Protester

People have known for a long time that smoking is bad for you.  Mohammed Hassan Husayni Nouri Shirazi was Iranian (میرزای شیرازی). He was against tobacco and was called the “Tobacco protest”.  “The Tobacco Protest, was by the Shah to Great britain

Smoking also tar and carbon dioxide.

Tobacco, cigarettes and cigars are made up with dried leaves and has over 7,000 chemicals. Tobacco has chemicals such as

  • Methanol (wood alcohol)
  • cyanide
  • benzene
  • formaldehyde
  • acetylene (the fuel used in welding torches)
  • ammonia
  • nicotine

Cigars have as much as tobacco than 1 pack of cigarettes. THAT IS A LOT OF TOBACCO!!. People who smoke cigars everyday will have a better chance of getting heart cancer or heart disease.

Who Smokes

  • Each day, 3,200 people under 18 smoke their first cigarette and 2,100 youth and young adults become daily smokers.
  • 9 out of 10 people smoke before the age of 18 and 98% of people start smoking until age 26.
  • 1 in 5 adults and teenagers smoke.
  • In 2011, an estimated 19% of U.S. adults were cigarette smokers.
  • Approximately 18% of high school students smoke cigarettes.
  • In 2011, nearly 18% of high school boys were current cigar users.
  • From 1964 to 2014, the proportion of adult smokers declined from 42.0% to 18.0%.

Why is smoking harmful to smokers?

General Health

  • More than 16 million people already have at least one disease from smoking.
  • More than 20 million Americans have died because of smoking since 1964, including approximately 2.5 million deaths due to exposure to secondhand smoke.
  • 8.6 million people live with a serious illness caused by smoking.
  • On average, smokers die 13 to 14 years earlier than nonsmokers.

Cancer

  • Smoking causes many other types of cancer, including cancers of the throat, mouth, nasal cavity, esophagus, stomach, pancreas, kidney, bladder, and cervix, as well as acute myeloid leukemia.
  • Men with prostate cancer who smoke may be more likely to die from the disease than nonsmokers.

Children

  • 5.6 million children alive today will ultimately die early from smoking. That is equal to 1 child out of every 13 alive in the U.S. today.

Overall smoking isn’t something to do if someone else is doing it. People do it to get attention that they like. If you smoke then it will be a daily habit to you or maybe even your friends. Next time you were planning on smoking with your friends, DON’T. It is really bad for you and will keep you fat or overweight. To sum up all of the reasons of smoking. If smoking needs to be stopped then ask a doctor, pharmacists or even friends and family members can help for your life and healthiness and for love of your loved ones. Remember smoking has consequences for your actions that you do with friends or alone.

Why Is Smoking Bad For The Environment
Smoking is bad for the environment because smoking destroys the air that we breathe through. Smoking can give people allergies when you smoke in front of them. There are lots of fines where people smoke such as elevators, malls, stores, cars, playgrounds and in other countries, you can smoke at all or you get arrested or a big fine. Smoking kill plants and trees.

The Tobacco safety movement

The Tobacco safety movement

By:Preston

The smoking movement happened in May 28 on 2000 it has happened because many families were wondering why their loved ones are dying from smoking. They thought since it did not warn them the could smoke their products.

So they thought something was up as they would soon learn the (CDC) said that anybody that smokes will get lung cancer and die. Well that made them all mad and made them march  because they thought that if they are going to use there products they should know that it will kill them . They all marched for many days months years and weeks till one day the (CDC) told the government after many years that they had to put warning labels on their cigarettes.

They did not put down the ads to get people to smoke so they were still at a high risk for smoking when they showed ads urging people to smoke. So they stop people from smoking just a little bit. So a couple years later the (CDC) made a new requirements that you can’t advertise smoking cigars to the public to tempt them into smoking it.

Which made everybody more relaxed also they still had many arguments with people who thought that it was okay to advertise smoking products or not warn them because it put down their businesses and rating approvals. so the (CDC) made a compromise that you could put smoking ads but you have to put smoke prevention ads to balance it out. Well after awhile they did a phase where they did not want any ads to make people smoke.

Did you know that cigarettes have more than 7000 chemicals and that you can get lung cancer heart cancer and disease  it is very harmful to your to your body and can kill you it has

  • CyanideUntitled drawing (1)
  • Benzene
  • Formaldehyde
  • Methanol (wood alcohol)
  • Acetylene (the fuel used in welding torches)
  • Ammonia
  • nicotine

As a result all of those are very harmful and you should never put in your body. if you see somebody smoke tell them to stop if you  think its cool its not cool. you should know that smoking does not  help you for any reason. and smoking is just not helpful to you and your family. Also if you smoke look and see if you can find help to stop you from smoking.

The Women’s Suffrage Movement

Women’s Suffrage Movement

By: Zahra

Womens suffrage

In 1848, women were told that they could not vote by their husbands, dads, brothers, and even their sons. This is the start of the women’s suffrage movement. There have been many changes since 1848. Let me show where it started.

The important people who helped stop women’s suffrage

Lets talk about Susan B. Anthony. She was born on February 15, 1820. She, and along with Elizabeth Cady Stanton, were furious women did not get to vote but men could. Susan B. Anthony voted once, when she was 53 years old. She was arrested for voting and she was supposed to pay a fine of $100. Susan B. Anthony did not pay.
How about Alice Paul. She was born on January 9, 1885. While studying in England, she joined the suffragists and was arrested many times. Like Martin Luther King Jr., she led a protest. She was also an American suffragist. She was a troublemaker, but she, Alice “troublemaker”, finally got to vote.

Don’t forget about Carrie Chapman Catt. She was born on January 9, 1859 and she grew up on Iowa farm. She had to walk 5 miles on horseback to school. She was also called “ the General”. She, and Alice, led the final fight that won the vote for women.

Sojourner Truth, who was born in 1797 in Rifton, NY , was also born a slave in New York. Her owner would not let her get married to the man she loved and forced her to marry someone else. She had thirteen kids, but  most of them were sold into slavery. She escaped slavery with her infant daughter in 1826. She gave a speech called “Ain’t I a woman”.

Elizabeth Cady Stanton was born on November 12 in Johnstown, NY, 1815 in a small town in upstate New York. When she was a little girl she would go to her fathers law office and hear married women begging for help. When she got older, she saw how girls and women were treated unfairly. But she died before she got the chance to vote.

But after the Great War, a man named Harry Burn was the reason that women could vote. He was born November 12, 1859 in Niota, TN. It was all to a note from him mother that said “ Hurrah! And vote for suffrage “. So he voted to end suffrage. So if it was not for that note, women would be miserable.

In Conclusion

As a result of these great people, women could vote, wear pants, go to college, and more. Without those people, women would be treated disrespectfully by the men in their lives. Those women were not heard for many years and now women could vote. Now women could be heard and do what we want to do. Women can now do what they could not do for 100 years and now they can. 100 years later, women could vote and go to college and more. Now everybody can be happy.

The Importance of Car Safety Movement

The Importance of Car Safety Movement

 By: Jamour

The Car Safety movement started in the 1950s and 1960s and it continues to this day. The movement has saved the lives of millions of people. Because of the car safety movement we now have airbags, seat belts, and back brake lights.

Seat Belt

Seat belts were invented by an English engineer named George Cayley  in the early 19th century. However, Edward J.Claghorn of New York, was the  first to earn a patent for the idea. Claghorn was granted United States Patent #312085 for a Safety-Belt for tourist, painters, and fireman. In 1911 Benjamin Foulois had the cavalry saddle shop fashion a belt for the seat of Wright Flyer Signal Corps1. He wanted it to hold him firmly in his seat so he could better control his aircraft as he bounded along the rough field used for takeoff and landing. It was not until World War 2 that seat belts were fully adopted in military aircraft, and even then,it was mainly for safety reasons, not to improve aircraft control. The world’s first seat belt law was put in place in 1970, in the state of Victoria,Australia, making the wearing of seat belt compulsory for drivers and front-seat passengers. This legislation was enacted after trialing Hemco seat belts, designed by Desmond Hemphill,in the front of police vehicles lowering the incidence of officer injury and death. University of Minnesota Professor James J.Ryan was the inventor of and held the patent on the automatic retractable lap safety belt. Ralph Nader cited Ryan work ins Unsafe at Any Speed and in 1966 President Lyndon Johnson signed two bills requiring safety belts in all passenger vehicles starting in 1968:SEE”Crash”Was His Name;Car Safety Was His Game” in Minnesota.

Third Brake Light

mustangEarly road vehicles used fueled lamps,Before the availability of electric lighting. For example, the first introduced Ford Model used carbide lamps for headlamps and oil lamps for tail lamps. It did not have all electric lighting as a standard feature until after several years on the market. Dynamos for auto headlamps were first fitted around 1908 and become commonplace in 1920s automobiles.Tail lamps and brake lamps were introduced around 1915 and by 1919 “dip” headlamps were available. The sealed beam headlamp was introduced in 1936 and standardised as the only acceptable type in the USA in 1940. Self-cancelling turn signals were developed in 1940. By 1945 headlamps and signal lamps were integrated into the body styling. Halogen headlamps light sources were developed in Europe in 1960. HID headlamps were produced starting in 1991. In 1993,the first LED tail lamps were installed on mass-production automobiles. Led headlamps were introduced in the first decade on the 21st century.

Car Test Dummies

On August 31,1869,Mary Ward became the first recorded victim of an automobile accident;the car involved was steam-powered(Karl Benz did not invent the gasoline-powered automobile until 1886). Ward,of Parsonstown,Ireland was thrown out of a motor vehicle and killed.Thirty years later,on September 13,1899,Henry became North America’s first motor vehicle fatality when hit while stepping off a New York trolley. Since then, over 20 million people worldwide have died due to motor vehicle accident. The need for a means of analyzing and mitigating the effects of motor vehicle accidents on humans was felt soon after commercial production of automobiles began in the late 1890s,and by the 1930s. When the automobile became a common part of daily life and the number of motor vehicle deaths are rising. Death rates had surpassed 15.6 fatalities per 100 million vehicle-miles and were continuing to climb. In 1930 cars had dashboard of rigid metal, non collapsible steering columns, and protruding knobs, buttons, and levers. Without , passengers in a frontal collision could be hurled against the interior of the automobile or through the windshield. The vehicle body itself was rigid, and impact forces were transmitted directly to the vehicle occupants. As late as the 1950s,car manufacturers were on public record as saying that vehicle accidents simply could not be made survivable because the forces in a crash were too great.

Air Brake(road vehicle)

An air brake or,more friction brake for vehicles,in which compressed air pressing on a piston is used to apply the pressure to the brake pad need to stop the vehicle. Air brakes are used in large heavy vehicles, particularly those having multiple trailers which must be linked into the brake system, such as trucks, buses, trailers, and semi-trailers in addition to their use in railroad trains. George Westinghouse first developed  air brakes for use in railway service. He patented a safer air brake on March 5, 1872.Westinghouse made numerous alterations to improve his air pressured brake invented, which led to various form of the automatic brake. Im the early 20th century, after its advantages were proven in railway use,it was adopted by manufacturers of trucks and heavy road vehicles.

For  these reasons why Car Safety is so important. Please when you enter in to a car put on a seat belt. When a police pull you over and tell you to fix you brake light fix them. Albert Einstein said “Any man who can drive safely while kissing a pretty girl is simply not giving the kiss the attention it deserves.” Don’t listen to Albert Einstein, don’t kiss a girl while driving, and keep your eyes on the road!
